HIFF Celebrates the Academy Awards®

Films we featured at HIFF31 were just as well received by The Academy as they were by our audiences last fall.

Congratulations to the films, filmmakers and actors who joined us last October and received a nomination from The Academy this week! 🥂 🎉 HIFF was proud to screen six of the Best Picture nominees: AMERICAN FICTION, ANATOMY OF A FALL, THE HOLDOVERS, MAESTRO, PAST LIVES, and THE ZONE OF INTEREST. Our Opening Night Film NYAD earned nominations for both of its powerful actresses, Annette Bening and Jodie Foster. Overall, HIFF screened half of the twenty nominated performances, seven of the films that received nominations for Best Screenplay (Adapted or Original), and two of the Best Director nominees.

Four of five films nominated for Best International Feature screened at HIFF: PERFECT DAYS, SOCIETY OF THE SNOW, THE TEACHERS’ LOUNGE, and THE ZONE OF INTEREST. And we screened four of the five Best Documentary Feature nominees throughout the year: BOBI WINE: THE PEOPLE’S PRESIDENT (HIFF30 Audience Award Winner), FOUR DAUGHTERS, THE ETERNAL MEMORY (SummerDocs, with director Maite Alberdi in Q&A), and 20 DAYS IN MARIUPOL (members screening with director Mstyslav Chernov in Q&A).

We will be rooting for these films on March 10. In the meantime, we hope our audiences will seek out any of the films you may have missed… click the boxes above and below to find out how you can watch.
