Our Sunday Centerpiece film CAROL is already making a big splash on this year’s Best Actress Race, as the two leads Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara give unforgettable performances in this intoxicating love story. (Rooney Mara won the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival for her role.) Adapting Patricia Highsmith’s semi-autobiographical novel The Price of Salt, director Todd Haynes (FAR FROM HEAVEN) illuminates the delicate intricacies of navigating forbidden desire in 1950s New York.
12 Noon | Guild Hall
Encore screening on Monday:
4:15 PM | Sag Harbor Cinema
Documentarian Michael Moore received a standing ovation for the first screening of his latest film WHERE TO INVADE NEXT on Saturday.
Lucky for us all, he’s also slated for a one-on-one Conversation With… today at 12 noon at the Bay Street Theater, also in Sag Harbor. Marshall Fine, Chair of the New York Film Critics Circle, will lead the conversation. Following the conversation is the encore screening, today at 1:45PM at Sag Harbor Cinema.
Moore’s filmography dates back to 1989, when ROGER & ME broke box-office records and gave birth to the modern-day documentary movement. Moore went on to break the documentary box office record two more times with his 2002 Oscar®-winning film BOWlING FOR COLUMBINE and the Palme d’Or-winning FAHRENHEIT 9/11.
Tickets are on Rush, but please do try the Rush Line: 12:00PM, Bay Street Theater.
Up next: A Conversation With Emily Blunt, winner of the 2015 Variety Creative Impact in Acting Award.
Golden Globe-winning actress Emily Blunt’s transformative ability and versatile performances make her one of the most in demand actresses of today. Blunt rose to international prominence with her outstanding performances in films such as THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA.
Most recently, Blunt earned a Golden Globe nomination and critical praise as “The Baker’s Wife” in Rob Marshall’s film adaptation of the musical INTO THE WOODS. Blunt starred alongside Tom Cruise in Doug Liman’s EDGE OF TOMORROW, for which Blunt won a Critics’ Choice Movie Award, and her latest film, SICARIO, is in theaters now.
Jenelle Riley, Deputy Awards and Features Editor for Variety, will moderate the conversation. Tickets are on Rush, but please do try the Rush Line: 2:00PM, Bay Street Theater.
