Sunday was another day of celebration and cinema at HIFF.
The day kicked off at Guild Hall with the New York Premiere of Liz Garbus‘s BECOMING COUSTEAU, where the audience was all treated to one of Cousteau’s signature red beanies. Film at Lincoln Center co-presented Pedro Almodóvar’s PARALLEL MOTHERS at Sag Harbor Cinema.
An enthusiastic local audience took in the four short films in the Views From Long Island Showcase, supported by the Suffolk County Film Commission, which presented the Next Exposure Grant to Nastasya Popov for her film GOOD GRIEF. The 18th edition of our partnership with NYWIFT once again highlighted women behind the camera in Women Calling the Shots.
Oscar-winning director Chai Vasarhelyi was joined by two of the heroic divers who played a crucial role in the events depicted in THE RESCUE, and Zelda Fitzgerald presented the annual “Giving Voice to the Voiceless” award to Andrea Arnold‘s COW, a brilliant documentary in our Compassion, Justice and Animal Rights section.
The Chairman’s Reception was an annual celebration of filmmakers and our special guests, followed by our Sunday Centerpiece screening, the US Premiere of Eva Husson’s MOTHERING SUNDAY, featuring a Q&A with lead actors Josh O’Connor and Odessa Young. The Centerpiece screening was sponsored by KORE Private Wealth.
