HIFF 2015 to Open with James Vanderbilt’s ‘Truth’

Truth, the directorial debut of James Vanderbilt, has been selected as the Opening Night film of the 23rd Annual Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF).

Truth, which stars Robert Redford, Cate BlanchettElisabeth Moss, and Topher Grace, follows news anchor Dan Rather (Redford) during his final days at CBS News, when he broadcast a report about how President Bush relied on privilege and family connections to avoid fighting in the Vietnam War. A Sony Pictures Classics release.

The cast is a dynamite group of critically acclaimed actors, including Redford, the iconic Oscar®-winning director and star, and Blanchett, whose work has been rewarded with two Oscars (Blue Jasmine and The Aviator). In addition to Moss and Grace, the supporting cast is equally strong, including Dennis QuaidBruce Greenwood, and John Benjamin Hickey.

Vanderbilt, who has written, directed and produced Truth, is best known as a screenwriter and producer. Past writing credits include blockbusters including Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man, White House Down and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He also produced Zodiac and White House Down, among others.

“We had the pleasure of having James Vanderbilt serve as a mentor in our Screenwriters Lab back in 2009, and we’re thrilled to have him back as the director of our Opening Night film,” said HIFF Artistic Director David Nugent. “He’s made a sharp and insightful film with wonderful performances that makes audiences consider the ever-changing relationship between journalism and politics in today’s media.”
