As documented in I AM GRETA—a US premiere in our signature program Air, Land + Sea at HIFF28 last fall—the remarkable Greta Thunberg has brought urgent concerns about climate change to the forefront of our global conversation, inspiring young people around the world.
Continuing our year-round focus on environmental issues through AL+S, we are proud to present YOUTH v GOV, which spotlights the growing efforts of hundreds of young activists across the United States. Specifically, YOUTH v GOV follows 21 young Americans suing the world’s most powerful government to protect their constitutional rights to a stable climate. If they win, they will change the future.
Join us for a special Air, Land + Sea screening of this inspiring new documentary, followed by an exclusive Q&A with the filmmakers. And next week, check back for a conversation with some of our local youth activists, East Hampton High School students committed to doing their part to enact positive change.

“Both a documentary and a kind of superhero movie.” — POV Magazine
YOUTH v GOV is the story of America’s youth taking on the world’s most powerful government. Armed with a wealth of evidence, twenty-one courageous leaders file a ground-breaking lawsuit against the U.S. government, asserting it has willfully acted over six decades to create the climate crisis, thus endangering their constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property. If these young people are successful, they will not only make history, they will change the future.
Followed by an exclusive Q&A with director Christi Cooper and producer Olivia Ahnemann, moderated by HamptonsFilm Artistic Director David Nugent.
