HamptonsFilm was proud to host a sneak peek of (7-time HIFF alum!) Kim A. Snyder‘s new documentary THE LIBRARIANS on Monday night at the East Hampton Library, with an introduction from Kim and producers Maria Cuomo Cole and Jana Edelbaum. After the screening, Kim was joined by executive producer Sarah Jessica Parker and Julie Miller, a librarian featured in the film, for an enlightening Q&A moderated by Jonathan Friedman, director of U.S. Free Expression Programs at PEN America.
The screening also served as a fundraiser for HamptonsFilm’s year-round programs, culminating in an intimate post-screening dinner generously hosted by HamptonsFilm Board Member Karen C. Phillips. Thank you, Karen, and to all who continue to support us all year long. HIFF33 is on the horizon, and Founder Passes are on sale now!

Librarians emerge as first responders in the fight for democracy and our First Amendment Rights. As they well know, controlling the flow of ideas means control over communities. In Texas, the Krause List targets 850 books focused on race and LGBTQia+ stories – triggering sweeping book bans across the U.S. at an unprecedented rate. As tensions escalate, librarians connect the dots from heated school and library board meetings nationwide to lay bare the underpinnings of White Christian Nationalism fueling the censorship efforts. Despite facing harassment, threats, and laws aimed at criminalizing their work – the librarians’ rallying cry for freedom to read is a chilling cautionary tale.
