HIFF’s first SummerDoc film and eventual Academy Award winner for Best Documentary, THE COVE is an astounding piece of investigative journalism with the heart of an action thriller. Led by Louie Psihoyos, leader of the Ocean Preservation Society, and Richard O’Barry, an internationally recognized authority on dolphin training who is best known for his work on the1960’s TV show Flipper, the film follows a high-tech dive team on a mission to discover the truth about the international dolphin capture trade as practiced in Taji, Japan.

Utilizing state-of-the-art techniques, including hidden microphones and cameras, Psihoyos brings confidence and precision to his insider’s account of this life-or-death covert operation as the team uncovers how this small seaside village serves as a horrifying microcosm of massive ecological crimes happening worldwide. A celebrated photographer who has created images for National Geographic for 18 years, Psihoyos captures the magnificence of the dolphins themselves and the ocean that surrounds them.

Proceeds from this screening will help to support HIFF’s Compassion, Justice, and Animal Rights program and HIFF’s Education Initiatives.

As the leaders of the original Baby Boomer generation now approach retirement age, the concept of what it means to be older is dramatically changing (hey, Mick Jagger is a grandfather!), so those who think that new love and romance end well before retirement age are in for a reality check.

BOYNTON BEACH CLUB is a romantic comedy about our amazing capacity to rebound and fall in love at any age. Lois, Harry, Marilyn, Sandy and Jack live in an “Active Adult” community in Boynton Beach, Florida. Their lives intersect when they meet at a local Bereavement Club, where they’ve gone to find emotional support after the loss of a loved one.

Soon they each find themselves on a journey they could never have predicted, when they reenter the “dating scene” after many decades, only to find that it’s a whole new world out there. BOYNTON BEACH CLUB shows us that it’s never too late to fall in love with ourselves and others, whatever our age.

Starring Dyan Cannon, Brenda Vaccaro, Len Cariou, Joseph Bologna, Sally Kellerman and Michael Nouri
