Bombay Beach (2011)

The final screening in our SummerDocs series is Alma Har’el’s documentary BOMBAY BEACH. The film is a dreamlike amalgam of observational documentary and choreographed dance taking place around the town of Bombay Beach on the shores of California’s Salton Sea. With music by Beirut and Bob Dylan, Har’el crafts a hauntingly beautiful portrait of the inhabitants of this titular ghost town.

BOMBAY BEACH will screen on Thursday, September 1st at 8:00 p.m. at Guild Hall. Host and HIFF Board member Alec Baldwin will participate in a question and answer session following the screening with director Alma Har’el.

SummerDocs: L’AMOUR FOU

L'Amour Fou (2010)

The third screening in our SummerDocs series is Pierre Thoretton’s Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) documentary L’AMOUR FOU, an IFC Films release. The film details the public and private life of Yves Saint Laurent — a life that was as extravagant as it was decadent. As a design prodigy and then the grand couturier of a fashion empire, Yves Saint Laurent influenced 50 years of style.

L’AMOUR FOU will screen on Friday, August 19th at 8:00 p.m. at Guild Hall. Host and HIFF Board member Alec Baldwin will participate in a question and answer session for L’AMOUR FOU with Barney’s New York Creative Ambassador-at-Large, author and fashion icon Simon Doonan, and American author and cultural critic Cintra Wilson.
