Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize
The Hamptons International Film Festival was the first film festival to partner with Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to give an annual cash prize to a film that features a realistic and compelling portrayal of science and technology. The Hamptons/Sloan Feature Film Prize comes from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation’s program in public understanding of science and forms part of a broader effort to stimulate leading artists in film, television, and theater creating more credible works about science and technology.

Sloan Screenplay Readings
At the annual HIFF Screenwriters’ Lab in April, several participating scripts selected explore science and technology in fresh and innovative ways. These screenplays are then read at the annual Sloan Screenplay Readings during the Festival. Guest actors attend the Festival to participate in the reading, and a notable filmmaker directs.

The Hamptons International Film Festival’s Screenwriters’ Lab, taking place annually in April, is an intimate gathering in East Hampton, New York. The Lab develops emerging screenwriting talent by pairing established writers & creative producers with up-and-coming screenwriters (chosen by HIFF in collaboration with key industry contacts). The mentors advise in a one-on-one creative laboratory setting while additional events bring the participants together with board members, sponsors, the local artistic community, and other friends of the festival. With scripts from past writers produced year after year, the Lab continues to be a safe and inspiring place for artists to find and hone their creative vision.
In the last few years, 3 projects from the Lab have gone on to be produced. These projects include Destin Cretton’s SHORT TERM 12, which recently won both the Audience and Grand Jury Prize at the South by Southwest Film Festival, and Justin Schwartz’ THE DISCOVERERS which had its world premiere at HIFF and continues to play at Festivals around the world. Claudia Myers’ film FORT BLISS is currently in Post Production.

We seek a broad selection of screenplays addressing a wide subject matter. Additionally, in collaboration with The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation’s initiative in furthering the public understanding of science, we encourage writers to submit screenplays that explore science, technology, mathematics, invention, and engineering in fresh and innovative ways.

Student Summer Film Workshop
HIFF is committed to educational outreach and enrichment within the Hamptons community.
Our Student Summer Film Workshop, in partnership with Guild Hall and LTV is lead by Executive Director Anne Chaisson. The 5-day filmmaking workshop celebrates its 6th year from July 22nd – 26th, with two separate groups of students: Introduction to Filmmaking for ages 8-11; and Intermediate – Hands On Filmmaking, for ages 12-15.

The Hamptons International Film Festival continues its annual SummerDocs series hosted by Alec Baldwin; June 15th, July 5th, August 12th, and August 30th.
Since its inception in 2009, SummerDocs, a series of highly-anticipated documentary films, has become one of the Hamptons International Film Festival’s signature events. Following each screening, the director and/or subject(s) of the film participates in a lively and engaging Q&A with HIFF board member Alec Baldwin, who co-curates the series with HIFF Artistic Director David Nugent.
